British Chevening Scholarship for International Students 2024 in UK

Applications for the fully-funded British Chevening Scholarship for International Students 2023/2024 to study for one-year master’s degrees at UK universities are now open. Some Chevening Fellowships are also now open for applications.

Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarship program. Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office and partner organizations, they offer awards to study in the UK for one year on a fully-funded master’s degree course.

The UK Chevening Scholarships application period runs from August to November each year. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities in the UK

What British Chevening Scholarship for International Students Covers/Benefits

The scholarship covers tuition fees, travel, and a monthly stipend plus more. Please see the Chevening website for more information.

A full Chevening Scholarship normally comprises:

  • Payment of tuition fees (Chevening applies a tuition fee cap of £18,000 to MBA programmes – applicants will be expected to cover the remaining costs above the £18,000 cap);
  • Economy travel to and from your country of residence by an approved route for you only;
  • An arrival allowance;
  • The cost of an entry clearance (visa) application is for you only;
  • A departure allowance;
  • A contribution of up to £75 for TB testing, where this is required;
  • A travel top-up allowance;
  • A monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover accommodation and living expenses. The monthly stipend will depend on whether you are studying inside or outside London. These rates are subject to annual review. Stipend payments will be made to you on or around the 21st of the month for the following full month. Where you arrive in the UK or leave the UK part way through the month, the stipend for that month will be adjusted as appropriate.

Who is Eligible for the Chevening Scholarship?

To be eligible for a Chevening Award you must:

  1. Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country;
  2. Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended;
  3. Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry to a postgraduate programme at a UK university – this is typically equivalent to an upper second class 2:1 honors degree in the UK;
  4. Have at least two years’ work experience (this may be up to five years for fellowship programmes – please refer to your country page for further details);
  5. Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and receive an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 16 July 2021;
  6. Meet the Chevening English language requirement by 16 July 2021.

You are not eligible for a British Chevening Scholarship if you:

  1. Hold British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong).
  2. Hold refugee status in a non-Chevening eligible country. Applicants who are citizens of a Chevening-eligible country and who hold refugee status in a Chevening-eligible country are eligible for a scholarship.
  3. Are an employee, a former employee, or a relative of an employee of Her Majesty’s Government, or have been within the last two years from the opening of Chevening applications (including British embassies/high commissions; the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy; Department for International Trade; the Ministry of Defense; and the Home Office), or a staff member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
  4. Employees, former employees, or relatives of an employee of Chevening Partner organizations are eligible to apply, but if the employment took place within the last two years, you cannot receive a Chevening Partner Award from the organization from which you work, previously worked, or are affiliated with through relatives.
  5. Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship.

British Chevening Scholarships Application Procedure:

Applications for Chevening Awards can only be submitted using the Chevening online application system, available through the “apply” button on your country’s page. The deadline for applications is 2 November 2022 at 12:00 GMT (midday).
