Applications are invited for the Cape Breton University Entrance Scholarships for all interested students who wish to study in a place where students receive a quality world-class education on Canada’s most challenging island. In Cape Breton University, students’ visions are formed and interests are honed.
Through the efforts of donors, $2.5 million in Cape Breton University Entrance scholarship and bursaries are offered to students entering CBU each year. Students entering direct from high school or through articulation agreement partners are considered for entrance scholarships based on their academic grades.

Cape Breton University Entrance Scholarships
(Domestic and International Students)
All entering students who wish to be considered for CBU entrance scholarships must submit the following in addition to an admission application.
- Official transcript
- Financial need application for those interested in bursaries
High School Students
- No failures in Grade 11 or 12 courses
- Average is based on all AC & AD Grade 11 courses and all AC & AD completed Grade 12 courses after first semester
- Average for international students entering directly from high school will be determined by Cape Breton University
- ESL conditional offers must attend a CBU English language partner school to have award honoured

Articulation Agreement Students
- Articulation agreements (both domestic & international) qualify
- Students must be currently enrolled in their program of transfer
- ESL conditional offers must attend a CBU English language partner school to have award honoured
- Minimum 80% average as determined by CBU to be eligible with no failures

There are a range of scholarships from $500 per year to $5,000 per year that will also be offered after a review of applicants.

Cape Breton University Scholarships Eligibility Requirements
- No failures in 11th or 12th grade courses;
- GPA is determined based on all 11th grade AC & AD courses and all 12th grade AC & AD courses that have been successfully completed beyond the first semester;
- GPA for international students coming directly from High School will be decided by Cape Breton University;
- ESL conditional biddings need to be in attendance at a CBU English language partner school in order for the scholarship to be honored.
Entrance Scholarships at Cape Breton University Application Process
To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates are required to be admitted into the university’s undergraduate program.
Supporting Documents: Applicants should submit transcripts from all schools they have attended and a copy of their passport.
Admission Conditions: Candidates should satisfy the university’s admission qualifications.

- TOEFL results are 550 ( on paper ), 213 ( on computer ) or 80 ( on internet ) : www.ets.org ;
IELTS Academic (and IELTS Indicator) score of 6.5, with no band below 6.0: www.ielts.org
CAEL score of 60 (including CAEL Online): www.cael.ca ;
MELAB score of 85: www.melab.ca
Pearson PTE (Academic) score of 59: www.pearsonpte.com ;
CanTEST score of 4.5 (reading and listening), 4.0 (writing);
Duolingo English test score of 115 for undergraduate programs, degrees and certificates.
