The scholarship is generously funded by DeepMind, that are open to applicants currently holding either a conditional offer or unconditional offer for the MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

DeepMind MSc scholarships 2022-2023

For October 2022 entry, there are three DeepMind MSc scholarships available, to students with a confirmed place on the MSc in Artificial Intelligence, the MSc in Computing (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), or the MRes AI and Machine Learning. Two are for students whose fee status is classified as home; one scholarship is for a student whose fee status is overseas.

The scholarships cover:

  • Full payment of tuition fees,
  • A maintenance grant of £17,961,
  • An equipment grant of £1,500,
  • A travel grant of £2,000 for attendance at conferences,
  • A relocation allowance, for the recipient of the overseas scholarship.

DeepMind scholars also receive invaluable guidance from personal mentors within DeepMind and attend educational and career events.

DeepMind PhD Scholarships at University of Birmingham 2022 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants wishing to apply for the DeepMind Postgraduate Scholarship at the University of Birmingham should meet one OR both of the following criteria:

  • Identify as female OR Identify as Black African, Black Caribbean, or other Black ethnicities.
  • Applicants must also:
    • Be able to demonstrate that they would not be able to take up the offer of admission without financial assistance.
    • Have already received a conditional/unconditional offer to study the MSc Artificial Intelligence and
    • Machine Learning at the University of Birmingham; and
    • Be ordinarily resident in the UK and would be classified as the UK for fee-paying purposes.

DeepMind Postgraduate Scholarships 2022-2023 Benefits

The scholarship, valued at £47,680 for international students and valued at £29,860 each for UK students, is applied against:

  1. International tuition fees – £26,640 / UK tuition fees – £10,620
  2. A maintenance grant of £15,840 (to use for living costs), paid in installments over the duration of the course
  3. Funding of up to £2,000 to attend an international conference in the field of AI and/or Machine Learning during the course as well as £1,500 towards the purchase of essential equipment (suitable laptop etc.).
  4. £1700 to assist with relocation expenses
