In this post, I will briefly explain the eligibility of Florida Bright Futures requirements before moving to the application calendar. I’ll end with tips and strategies to help you get the best possible application for Bright Futures scholarships.

Types of Florida Bright Futures scholarships 2022

There are three award levels in the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship: They are:

  • The Florida Academic Scholars Award
  • Florida Medallion Scholars Award, and
  • Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award.

The three Bright Futures Scholarships are easily renewable, which means you can significantly reduce your university costs for the Florida Bright Bright Future Scholarship for several years.

However, you may find it difficult to submit the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship application form. It turns out that much of the process is streamlined and automated – you will not have to go through too many obstacles to apply.

General Florida Bright Futures Requirements

The following are the general Bright Futures requirements that apply to all Florida Bright Futures Scholarships:

  • You must be a resident of Florida and a US citizen or an eligible non-citizen (as determined by your college).
  • You must complete the application for financial assistance in Florida before August 31st of your high school year.
  • Also, you must obtain a Florida high school diploma or its equivalent from a Florida public high school or a registered Florida Department of Education private school.
  • You should not have been convicted of a crime
  • You must be accepted by and enroll in a degree or certificate program at an eligible Florida public or independent postsecondary institution (postsecondary, college, vocational, or professional program).
  • In addition, you must be enrolled for at least 6 (non-remedial) credit hours per term.

Specific Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Requirements

There are several conditions for Bright Future Scholarships, minimum requirements for GPA, ACT / SAT, and hours of service for the three Bright Future Scholarships.

The most competitive scholarship is the Florida Academic Scholars Program (FAS), followed by the Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS), and then the Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV).

Bright Futures Requirements to Receive an Award: (As determined by the postsecondary institution)

  1. Be evaluated by the Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) as meeting initial eligibility requirements,
  2. Graduate with a standard high school diploma or its equivalent,
  3. Be a Florida resident and U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, and
  4. Enroll as a degree- or certificate-seeking student at a Florida institution in at least 6 non-remedial semester credit hours.

How to Apply for Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program

Students must apply for the award by submitting the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) by August 31 after graduating from high school.

NOTE: To be eligible for the Bright Futures Scholarship, you must select “University of Central Florida” as your post-secondary institution on the Initial Student Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA). If you have already picked another university on the FFAA and want to attend UCF, you must change your institution name selection to “UCF.”

To change the name of your post-secondary institution, go to the Florida Department of Education’s Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) website or contact 1-888-827-2004.

Application Deadline

The deadline for the submission of the application is August each year.
