The Hatfield Lioness Scholarship at the University of Durham is for female students from eligible developing countries who wish to undertake a full-time taught Masters degree programme at the University of Durham. The aim is to enable these female students from developing countries where access to tertiary education is limited, to benefit from undertaking postgraduate study at the University of Durham.
The Hatfield Lioness Postgraduate Scholarship was launched as part of the celebration of 30 years of women students at Hatfield College, Durham University in 2018, and is funded by alumni, friends of the College, and other sources supportive of the scholarship’s aims.

Hatfield Lioness Scholarship 2023-2024 Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Hatfield Lioness Scholarship at Durham University in the UK, applicants are required to meet the following conditions:
- Be fluent in English.
- Be a citizen of any country around the world.
- Not currently be receiving any other scholarship to cover the cost of their postgraduate studies.
- Applicants must have applied for and been offered an unconditional place in their chosen master’s programme by June 2023.
- Possess an appropriate bachelor’s degree of sufficient quality to be accepted into their desired master’s program.
- Not already have a master’s degree.
- Satisfy all other entry requirements for the program, including meeting the necessary English language proficiency level.
- Lack the financial means to pursue a master’s degree in the UK through other means.
The Hatfield Lioness Master’s Scholarship Funding Details
The scholarship will cover:
- Full payment of University tuition fees
- Stipend for living expenses
- One return economy air ticket from the home country to the UK, and the cost of return travel between the UK airport and Durham City
- Fully funded, self-catered, mixed accommodation at Hatfield College
- ‘Settling in allowance’ on arrival
- Cost of UK visa and the UK Health surcharge

- Stage 3: Submit all supporting documents (Durham University offer letter, academic transcript, references, and IELTS certificate) via email to hatfield.trust@durham.ac.uk by the deadline.
