International freshmen will be considered for a limited number of merit scholarships. At Iowa State University, students get a great academic and research start in learning communities and stay active in a series of undergrad research, internships, and study abroad programs.
The Iowa State University International Merit Scholarship is awarded to well-rounded students who have demonstrated strong academic achievement, and outstanding talent or achievements in one or more of the following areas:
- Math and sciences,
- The arts
- extracurricular activities
- community service
- leadership, innovation, or entrepreneurship.

Iowa State University Scholarships Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the International Merit Scholarships at Iowa State University, applicants are to meet the following criteria;
- Applicants must be incoming international freshmen who have been offered admission to study a full-time program at the university.
- Applicants must submit qualifying SAT or ACT scores.
- Applicants must complete the Iowa State University OneApp by completing the General OneApp application and completing the International Student Admissions Scholarship application.
- Applicants must demonstrate strong academic and leadership abilities.
How to Apply for Iowa State University (ISU) Scholarship 2023
OneApp will open on September 15 for students to apply for scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year. Deadlines will vary depending on the scholarship or opportunity, so we encourage students to log in to OneApp early and often to ensure deadlines are met.
Once submitted, students can still access and revise their applications until the scholarship close date. Scholarship selection committees will use the information available in the system (e.g., data from student records and/or information provided on the General Application, Conditional Application, and any Recommended Opportunities) as of when the committee begins its review of applications.
